By increasing the pump specific speed and rotation speed, the impeller diameter can be reduced and, as the result, the pump is lighter and more compact.
Increasing the rotation speed of the pump may make cavitation performance worse compared to the conventional type, and the impeller may need to be submerged deeper. Also, since the pump efficiency is lower than the conventional pump, the motor has a larger output. Since the shut-off shaft power is higher than the conventional pump, the Q-H characteristics of the pump must be thoroughly investigated within the operational range.
